ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The dept.  of physics is one of the oldest department of the  college. There are four laboratories and   one library  in the department of  physics. All the Labs are well equipped with  the latest  equipment’s. The faculty members are highly qualified and actively involved in research. They are guiding the  undergraduate, post graduate and Ph.D. students for their research work. The department has an active subject society which organises  various activities such as Alumni meet, Annual fest AAVEG,  lectures by eminent speakers etc. every year.

SOME OF THE INSTRUMENTS USED IN THE LABORATORIES

BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE INSTRUMENTS

  • Complete Electronic Kit : Power supply, DSO, Function generator and Digital multimeter
  • B-H  Curve set up:  The complete B-H curve set up  is  used to described hysteresis loop.  It is an  important tool   to calculate  the magnetic properties  of different magnetic materials.
  • Antenna Kit: This kit is used to study the  reflection, refraction  Polarization and double slit interference in microwaves
  • Source Meter:  A very precise instrument used for ( current-voltage) I- V characterisation for wide variety of materials and semiconductor testing.
  • Surface Plasmon Resonance system: This setup can be used to find the  complex dielectric constant and plasma frequency of a metal  along with the  refractive index of a dielectric material.
  • Four Probe Set up:  It is a valuable tool which help us in the  study of   resistivity of semiconductor  with temperature  and hence  we can  calculate the band gap of  it.
  • Gouy’s Set up: This simple method is used to determine the magnetic susceptibility of magnetic material ( dia  or para)  by measuring the force exerted on the sample by a magnetic field gradient.
  • Hall Effect set up:  It is a very important set up which determine  Hall coefficient,  Hall angle , mobility and concentration of carriers  in the semiconductor sample.
  • Michelson Interferometer: This instrument uses interference phenomenon to measure the wavelength of the source of light.
