About Department of History
 
The Department of History is as old as the college itself. Over the last 25 years, the college has offered B.A. (Program) course to its students. The college gave the students choice of Ancient Indian History in the first year, Modern India to 2nd year and Modern Europe in the 3rd year. Later the change came in the form of Cultural Transformations in Early Modern Europe in the 2nd year and the Modern Indian History shifting to the 3rd year. Now even this has changed. Now the University has introduced the CBCS (Choice-based credit System) under which major change has come as the students will have to study Ancient India in the first and 2nd semesters- History Paper-I ( History of India from Earliest Times up to 300 CE  and History Paper II –History of India From c.300 CE to 1206 CE. In the 3rd Semester- History of Medieval India (From 1206 to 1750s comprising both the Sultanate and the Mughal periods). In the 3rd-iv th sems. The students will also have to study some skill enhancement papers. In the Vth and VI th Semesters the students will have To study skill enhancement papers which could be properly seen on the university website.
 
In the year 2014, on 21-23 Feb., the Department of History had the privilege of Hosting an International Conference on the theme ‘’ The Asiatick Society, Indology and Indologists During the Late 18th and 19th Centuries A.D.’’ at the Conference Centre, with the generous Grants-in-aid by ICPR ( Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Under MHRD), Govt. of India  and I.CH.R( Indian Council of Historical Research, Under MHRD),  Govt. of India.  Foreign scholars from Paris, France, Heidelberg, Germany, Sri Lanka, Roma, Italy participated along with about 200 from India. About 50 papers were read in all. It was all possible because of the valuable academic and intellectual help rendered by our Principal Dr. S.K.Garg, Dr. Kulvinder Singh, Dr. Manoj Saxena, Dr. Poonam Kasturi ( Deptt. of Electronics) and Dr. Mahaveer Genwa of Chemistry deptt, Dr. Anand Saxena, Commerce deptt. and Mr. Sikandar Aggarwal  (A.O) and others from the staff. 
 
In the same year in August 2014, Our deptt. organized a one-day International Seminar in collaboration with the deptt. of Business Studies ( Dr. Nisha Rana and Ms. Monica Bansal) in which scholars from Paris and the University of Rheims, France participated.  The chief Guest was the Hon. Vice-chancellor Prof. Dinesh Singh and the Guest  of Honour was the historian Prof. V.K.Jain.  papers were read by Prof. P.S Filliozat( Paris, France), Dr. Bruno Restiff (Rheims, France), Dr. Manonmani Restiff (Rheims) Prof. Radhika Seshan ( Univ. of Pune), Diwakar Singh and Ms. Namita Singh ( Univ. of Delhi) were other speakers. It was well attended by the teachers and students from across the colleges and departments. The department is trying to expand and request has been made to open honours course in future.
