Sanganika, the subject society of Department of Computer Science, DDUC, Delhi University organized an one day workshop entitled “Machine Learning in Python” on 25thFebruary 2022 from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. The teacher co-ordinators of the webinar were Dr. Sujata Khatri and Dr. Abha Jain from Department of Computer Science, DDUC, Delhi University. The workshop was a huge success with the total participation of 50 students.

The speaker for the session was Dr. Anuradha Chug, Associate Professor from University School of Information and Communication Technology (USICT), GGSIP University, Delhi.

The speaker started the first session by explaining the basics of Machine Learning and how it is different from the traditional programming constructs. This was followed by highlighting the need for machine learning in today’s era and how it forms a part of Artificial Intelligence. Thereafter, the explanation of how different machine learning models can be constructed by employing various mathematical and statistical algorithms. The techniques covered were Decision Tree used for classification, K-Means clustering used for clustering and Apriori algorithm used for finding association rule mining. The speaker covered various examples to explain these techniques along with how they are implemented in Python language.

The second session, which was the hands-on session, began with basics of Python language to familiarize the students with the language. Hereafter, students tried implementing the various techniques which were explained in the first session. The students were explained about the various in-built functions and library available in Python to implement the techniques. Speaker along with her assistants and department teachers helped the students overcome any problem they faced. By the end of the hands-on session all students had successfully implemented the given questions pertaining to each of the three techniques.

Last but not the least, the session was concluded by the speaker by emphasizing that machine learning has been a very upcoming field in today's time enabling the data scientists to develop self-learning computers by incorporating various data mining techniques. As big data continues to expand and grow, the demand for machine learning will increase opening a world of opportunities to develop applications in various areas such as cybersecurity, image recognition, face recognition etc. The audience of the session who were the students of DDUC of Computer science stream were highly satisfied with the session gaining the knowledge of building machine learning models which can be used to predict future data.

After the session by the speaker, interactive question-answer session was conducted where students participated with full enthusiasm. Overall, the one-day workshop was a huge success. DSA and Competitive Programming

Introduction to Competitive Programming and resources for practice

Date: 30th October 2021

Timing: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

No. of attendees: 30

Brief

On 30th October 2021, the CodeChef Chapter of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College organised a 2 hour seminar on Data Structures & Algorithms and Competitive Programming. The main motive of this event was to introduce the college students to the concept of Competitive Programming as a sport and an exercise to improve logic building and problem solving skills. It was directed towards students of all streams who want to improve their programming and problem solving skills, and not just students of Computer Science.

Later, many resources and platforms, such as CodeChef, Hackerrank, LeetCode, etc., were discussed and demonstrated to students which they can use to improve their skills. The event concluded with a QnA session with the attendees.

Feedback from the students

I am always on the lookout for such sessions and this was a good one. I got to how can I improve DSA and what role can CP play in it. I also liked the concept of follow up mail that was sent after the event containing a summary and all the resources that were discussed in the event. It was nice.

- Shreshtha Kumar Gupta

Got to know about many platforms that I did not know about before and also how to best use them as a beginner in Competitive Programming. The session got a bit lethargic in the end, but I will definitely try out the websites.
